Do you know how the first Puzzle appeared?
It all began in 1767 when a British cartographer named John Spilsbury decided to make a wooden map and cut it into small pieces. The idea was to engage younger children and teach them geography in a simple and relaxed way. The idea was so well received by parents and teachers that it quickly became a success. Since then, over time, new materials, themes, and formats have gradually appeared, undergoing various changes until reaching the version we know today.
Do you think puzzles are difficult? Just imagine what jigsaw puzzles used to be like…
When the first jigsaw puzzles appeared, most of the pieces were cut exactly along the color lines. Since there were no transition pieces between two colors, it became difficult to know where one color ended and the other began. To make matters worse, the puzzles also didn’t have the image on the box, so the theme remained a mystery until the very last pieces.
Tips for Puzzle Fans:
1 – Choose the right puzzle
If you’re new to the world of puzzles, it’s important that you feel comfortable. In the beginning, it’s best not to start with too many pieces. Try starting with 500 pieces!
2 – The right image makes all the difference.
The golden rule in puzzles is to choose an image you like. It seems basic, but in reality, it will make all the difference in your motivation.
3 – Make room for the puzzle.
Besides the final size of your puzzle, you need plenty of space to spread the pieces out as you please. If you need to use the table where you’re assembling it for other things, it’s a good idea to have a puzzle stand. This way, you can move it freely to other places and continue later.
4 – Make yourself at home
Who doesn’t love spending afternoons putting together their favorite jigsaw puzzle? First of all, put on some comfortable clothes, turn on your favorite music or put on a movie, and enjoy!
5 – Avoid demotivation
When you open the box and see the path ahead, don’t despair! In fact, it looks much more complicated than it is. Completing a jigsaw puzzle can take hours, days, or weeks, depending on how much time you have available. The important thing is that you enjoy the process.
6 – Get organized
To save time, it’s important that you start by turning all the pieces face up. Then, you organize them by color, pattern, or position in the image.
7 – It starts as it should.
After organizing the pieces, start by assembling the border pieces. These are easy to find and give you an idea of the size of the puzzle.
8 – Works image by image
Como normalmente os Puzzles têm bastantes detalhes, o melhor é te ires focando zona a zona. Não interessa se é junto às bordas ou no meio do Puzzle, o importante é que comeces.
9 – Get to know your jigsaw puzzle
Sometimes it’s difficult to find where the pieces belong. To guide you, take a look at the image on the box. If it’s too easy for you, try doing it without looking at the image.
10 – Make friends
Putting together puzzles with friends is definitely much more fun.
11 – Take breaks
It’s not a competition, and nobody is judging how long it takes you to finish.
